Today was the last day before the commencement of phase 1 of ‘Unlock 1’. However, this is bringing out an alarming situation for all the Mumbaikars. As of today, Mumbai has noticed 1421 New Cases of COVID19 in the city, taking the tally to 48549. Apart from that, the city has also witnessed 61 deaths today reaching the tally till 1636 deaths.

The positive news for the day is, today 1218 people recovered from Coronavirus. The total score of people won against coronavirus now stands to 21,196 cases in the city. As of now, there are 25717 active cases in Mumbai itself.

With the government announcing relaxation for physical activities in parks, beaches, and Marine Drive people are soaring out to breathe in the fresh air. Why still the testing is low in Mumbai?

Despite the capacity of the infrastructure to conduct 10000 tests/day in Mumbai. Since 1st May, the government has restricted the amount of COVID tests to 4000 only. Till today, the total COVID tests tally in Mumbai stands at 2.19 lakh samples. While in the entire country, total tests conducted stands at 45,24,317 till date. It is noteworthy, Mumbai’s contribution in all the Coronavirus cases is almost 20% of the entire country!




In Maharashtra, the government has increased the testing capacity from 7,237 samples per day on 1st May to 14,504 tests/day by 31st May. Maharashtra’s score stands at 5,37,124 samples in its 47 government laboratories and 38 private laboratories. The state is having a recovery rate of 45.06% and fatality rate of 3.57%

Tough times are ahead for Mumbai. It is necessary to take all the precautions to prevent the rising numbers of COVID patients in the city. We hope for the speedy recovery of all the patients so that Mumbai can be ‘Back to Normal’.
