It is safe to say that the Mumbai local trains are the heart of the city as such they run day and night without any halt and connect a vast area with it. The train network has become the most preferred way of transport in Mumbai, all thanks to the big traffic jams due to population.

Due to this, many commuters have managed to create a fake transporter’s pass or fake essential worker identity card and have been traveling around the city with it during this coronavirus time.

The local train network has been laid on over 390 kilometers and carries more or less than 8 million people daily as per one estimate. Being able to carry as many computers daily, it is safe to say that the Mumbai local trains are one of the busiest train networks in the world when talking about the total yearly volume of passengers.

But the booming local train network halted when the coronavirus outburst started and the whole country got into lockdown mode. After some time, the train network started with limited trains running through the network to enable the emergency workers or frontline battlers to reach their destination.

This created a chance for many to create a fake essential worker identity card and travel around the city without any restriction or lockdown imposed on the nation.

To cite the seriousness of the scenario, approximately 191 people were booked for traveling with fake documents which later rose to 533 commuters in August. The number gradually lowered down to 240 when the checking process got a little tense.

As per a report published in the Hindustan Times, a senior central railway officer stated that ‘ there has been a decrease in fake identity commuters after opening the Mumbai local railway for the general public. Enjoy traveling on local trains!
