We all know that Anil Kumble is named the new coach for Indian cricket team but did you know that Rahul Dravid was the first choice of Cricket Advisory Committee to become the new coach of team India. 57 people had applied for this post and 21 were shortlisted by Cricket Advisory Committee in Kolkata before finalising the legendary leg spinner Anil Kumble.
Although Dravid was offered big money, he declined the offer, said BCCI president, Anurag Thakur.
“I REQUESTED RAHUL DRAVID TO COACH THE INDIAN TEAM. HE DIDN’T SAY NO, BUT SAID THAT HE WILL WORK FOR THE JUNIOR TEAM. THAT IS THE GOOD THING ABOUT DRAVID. HE DIDN’T GO FOR THE SENIOR TEAM POST, BIG MONEY AND ALL. HE WANTED TO WORK FOR THE JUNIOR CRICKETERS AND NOT THE SENIOR TEAM,”
“I can only do short-term assignments, I can’t stay away from home for long periods of time, short assignments suit me better,” is what Dravid had Thakur when approached for the post.
Rahul Dravid has been successful with India U-19 cricket team as it reached finals of u-19 world cup this year, Dravid wants to continue doing what he is best at and everyone is very proud of him. Money, power or fame, nothing could stop Rahul Dravid from doing what he wants to do.
We wish Rahul Dravid all the best for his future with Team India U-19
