Flying a long-haul flight on an airplane can be uncomfortable sometimes, but a good seat on the flight has the potential to make the journey relaxing and pleasant. Getting some extra legroom on a long flight is a blessing. For people who can’t experience the luxury of first-class flights, extra legroom in economy seating is their saviour.

A man has been breaking the Internet as refused to move seats for an elderly couple who tried claiming the seats for their own. And why should he? After all, he paid additional for extra legroom on a 12-hour flight. The man took to Reddit to share his side of the story. He said he saw receiving evil glares from passengers after he refused to move from the seat he paid for.

The Reddit user wrote: “Old couple try to take our seats on a plane.”

The man said, “Saw a few plane seat-related posts so I thought I would add my story.”

He and his partner planned a 3-month trip around the world. He booked premium seats for a 12-hour flight from New Zealand to Los Angeles, as he needed more legroom because he was 6’3’’ tall.

“A few years ago my significant other and I planned a three-month trip around the world. Our first flight was from New Zealand to LA. 12-13 hours. We booked and paid for our flights and I added the premium economy seats as I’m 6’3 and wanted the extra legroom. Cost an extra $60 (£50).”

However, when the couple reached their seats on the flight, they saw an elderly couple in their mid-70s already sitting on their seats.

“This flight was with Air New Zealand, the screen has your name on it when you get to your seat. “Welcome churtothechur” We get on the plane. Find our seats and this older couple is sitting there (mid-70s). I asked them if they got confused with their seat numbers. They hadn’t.”

The old couple then asked the man and his significant other to sit on their seats which had no legroom and were ten rows back.

“I show them my ticket and seat number and point to my name on the screen. They then asked me to just sit in their seats which were 10 rows back. No leg room.”

The man said that even after informing the old couple that he had paid extra for the seats they were not ready to leave.

The man explained their conversation:

Me: “You want me to sit in your seats?”

Old people: “Yes that would be nice thank you”

Me: “I paid extra for these seats and would like to sit in them. Please move to your seats.”

Old People: “Oh it’s not that bad there’s plenty of leg room.”

Me: “Yeah there’s plenty of legroom in my seats because I paid for it. I’ll help move your bag if you need it.”

It was at this point that a flight attendant joined the scene after noticing the line in the aisle was ‘getting long’.

OP: “This man wants us to move seats!”

FA: “Sir please go to your allocated seats.”

Me: “Here is my ticket, these people are sitting in my seats. I paid extra because I need to legroom.”

FA to old people: “Excuse me, you will have to move to your seats as you have not paid for these seats.”

Old people: “Well can we please have an upgrade?”

FA: “Sorry this is a full flight so that’s not possible.”

Old people: “Pikachu face.”

The man then concluded his post by saying he got some stinky eyes from other people on the flight but since he paid extra for the legroom, he needed his seats.

The post received over 2000 comments from fellow Redditors and the comment section was filled with different opinions.
