Born on 25th April 1967, Samarjitsinh Gaekwad took birth as the son of Shubhnginiraje and Ranjitsinh Pratapsinh Gaekwad. For education, he shifted to Dehradun and completed his schooling at the Doon School. In 2012, his father passed away in May and he got property worth Rs 20,000/- crores in inheritance. The name of the property is Laxmi Villas Palace where he is living with his family. The palace is located in the middle of the city and people from all over the world visit there as tourists.

He used to play as the top-order batsman and is popularly known for representing the city in the Ranji trophy. Later, he also worked as the president of the Baroda Cricket Association.
