Sacrificing an animal is a superstitious practice that is still prevalent among many communities all across India. While some believe that ritually sacrificing an animal can ward off evil in their home while others do it to bring good luck.
But one incident reported of such ritual animal sacrifice went horribly wrong in Pallavaram, Chennai. A 70-year-old man died in a tragic incident after he falls off from his newly constructed house. He was trying to catch the rooster he had brought for sacrifice to ward off evil eye from his new house.
Unfortunately, the person who was to perform the ritual sacrifice was killed and the rooster that was to be slaughtered survived. Rajendran had to perform a ritual on Thursday.
According to the local police, the man who worked as a mason also used to perform animal sacrifice rituals at housewarmings. On Thursday he was invited by one T Lokesh, to perform a rooster sacrifice ahead of the housewarming ceremony at a newly constructed three-story apartment. Early in the m morning at 4 am, the 70 years old man reached his newly constructed home where he would sacrifice the chicken. When he was on the third floor of the house, Rajendran suddenly lost hold of the chicken and fell off the building.
But after Rajendiran did not return for a long time, Lokesh went looking for him and found him lying in a 20-foot-deep pit dug for a lift on the premises. The rooster that was to be sacrificed also fell off the building but survived and Lokesh found it standing on the body of Rajendran.
Rajendiran was rushed to the nearby hospital but unfortunately, he was declared dead. According to the police, since the newly constructed house was filled with wires and cement, he may have slipped and fallen into the pit. Rajendiran did not have any contact with his family for several years and police were not able to identify his native place.
