Birthday celebrations are special, especially for kids. Getting surprised by their parents and friends, being surprised with presents, and enjoying the special day with loved ones fill a child with glee. However, those who are underprivileged do not have the luxury of celebrating birthdays or buying gifts. But it takes just a little humanity and some effort from us who are financially stable to make a difference in their life.
Recently, a touching video of a little boy who celebrated his birthday for the first time went viral. The video showed Ángel David from Ebéjico, Colombia, in tears as he entered his classroom to the sound of his mates singing him the birthday song. The video was originally posted last month on TikTok.
Ángel was turning eight and was filmed in complete shock, as he fought back tears to the sound of the Spanish “cumpleaños feliz” (happy birthday) song.
8 years old, Angel never got to celebrate his birthday. He comes from a financially struggling family and has four siblings with his mother’s limited income. His mother revealed that she never got to throw him a birthday party because they never had the money to do so.
So his teacher, Casas Ximeno, came to know about Angel’s birthday. She found out that his eighth birthday was coming up, prompting her to gather friends, classmates, and teachers to come together for the special occasion.
They had been planning his birthday since last year, with two mothers who had first come up with the idea of celebrating Angel’s birthday and throwing him a surprise party.
One of the mothers told Colombian News: “The boy once came up to us and told us that he dreamed of a birthday party.
“We know that his mother does not have enough resources to celebrate his birthday.
“That’s how we decided to join forces to celebrate his birthday.”
The little boy’s teacher wanted to be an accomplice in the birthday celebration. And just like that, an entire group of his friends and classmates surprised Ángel at school. The school is located in the town of Seville in the Ebéjico municipality.
This little gesture leaves the unsuspecting little boy completely speechless. The boy was also gifted cake and some cold drinks, to the joy of him and his birthday party mates.
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday,” Ángel’s friends could be heard singing.
“May you fulfil them happily and may you fulfil them again,” the classmates chanted in the classroom of the Presbítero Gabriel Yepes Yepes Educational Institution, which had been decorated with balloons.
His classmates even decorated his birthday cake with a theme from his favourite television show: Paw Patrol.
“I felt very happy, I had never had a birthday like that before. I was so happy that I even started crying from happiness. My companions hugged me and told me to live until I was three thousand years old.” Ángel said.
