It’s said that marriages are made in paradise. And that’s true, but there are a few people who are willing to shell out a fortune for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Only a select few people can afford such a lavish wedding that is supposed to be larger-than-life. Taking things to a whole new level of extravagance are the Indian billionaires, one of them being Ambanis who will not think twice about flying in Beyonce for a performance at his daughter’s wedding.
Despite the whopping costs of these weddings, each couple has upheld their traditions, upbringing and histories as indicated by their wedding rituals and the strong emotional bonds they have with their family. So here are some of these famous people who have previously thrown the most extravagant wedding celebrations that we can only dream of!
1) Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal (₹700 crores)
The billionaire businessman Mukesh Ambani, who is estimated to be $42 billion, left no stone unturned to give his only daughter a wedding to remember. The star-studded celebrations in 2018 were reported to have cost 700 crores, with celebrations spread across Udaipur, Lake Como in Italy, and then at the Ambani home in Mumbai.
The invitations for Isha’s wedding came in a Dolce & Gabbana box, adorned with pink and gold lace and detachable chains that could be worn as jewelry. Beyonce flew for a 45-minute performance and was rumored to have been paid $15 million which featured a number of costume changes.
2) Shristi Mittal and Gulraj Behl (₹500 crores)
Pramod Mittal also left no stone unturned for the wedding of his 26-year-old daughter Shristi Mittal to Gulraj Behl, an investment banker in 2013. The two got married in Barcelona with 500 guests. The wedding included a menu catered by Spanish celebrity chef Sergi Arola, as well as a six-tier wedding cake that weighed 60kgs. About 200 butlers and cooks were flown into Spain from India and Thailand for the ceremony.
3) Sushanto Roy and Seemanto Roy’s double wedding (₹554 crores)
The former Indian billionaire Subrata Roy and the founder and chairman of the multi-billion dollar conglomerate Sahara India Pariwar went all out for the wedding of his sons Sushanto and Seemanto, who tied the knot in a double ceremony in 2004. Sushanto married Richa Ahuja on February 10, while Seemanto married Chandini Toor on February 14.
The wedding took place at the Sahara Stadium in Lucknow and featured lavish decorations. Spread across a week, more than 11,000 guests were invited. Roy hosted a simultaneous ceremony at the venue for 110 women who could not afford their own weddings.
4) Brahmani Reddy and Rajeev Reddy (550 crore)
The former politician Gali Janardhana Reddy got her daughter married to Rajeev Reddy, the son of Hyderabad business tycoon Vikram Dev Reddy, in the midst of a cash flow crisis in India. He spent 550 crore for a five-day celebration held at the Bangalore Palace in 2016.
Three thousand security guards were recruited for the wedding celebration and the bride’s wedding sari cost a whopping 170 million rupees and $2 million. There was a gold-plated wedding invitation for the wedding.
5) Sonam Vaswani and Navin Fabiani (₹210 crore)
Daughter of Stallion Group’s Sunil Vaswani Sonam Vaswani married Navin Fabiani son of a Spain/Mumbai businessman in Vienna. Their wedding consisted of a performance by Bruno Mars and Sukhbir.
6) Vanisha Mittal and Amit Bhatia (₹240 crore)
Lakshmi Mittal’s daughter Vanisha married British businessman Amit Bhatia got married in 2004 which made the news. The Guinness World Records named this wedding as the most expensive wedding of that time. The lavish ceremony was held at the Palace of Versailles, Vaux-le-Vicomte, a 17th-century castle. Kylie Minogue, Shah Rukh Khan, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan were there to perform at the ceremony.
7) Lalit Tanwar and Yogita Jaunapuria (₹250 crore)
Lalit Tanwar and Yogita Jaunapuria’s wedding in 2011 was something extravagant. Lalit was gifted a helicopter by the bride’s parents worth Rs 21 crores. The wedding took place in Jaunpur, Haryana, and 15,000 attended it. The people attending the wedding were gifted silver biscuits, safari suits, and Rs 2,100 in cash. Neha Dhupia performed at the wedding.
