In a recently reported case from India’s West Bengal, a woman tricked her husband into selling his kidney for $1 million. The man thought he was making a financial decision for their 12-year-old daughter’s education. But the woman later used this money to disappear with another man. In fact, the reports alleged that the woman forced her husband to sell his kidney under the pretext of saving money for their daughter’s future. After her insistence for the past 1 year, the husband agreed to go under the knife and they started hunting for a buyer.
The man started believing that if he sold his kidney, the financial situation of his family would improve from the money earned. He expected that besides the education, the money would also fund his daughter’s marriage in the future. Little did he know that he was going to face the biggest betrayal of his life soon. While the man intended to alleviate his family from poverty, his wife had other plans.
After coming back home with the money, the wife asked her husband to “take rest” and not leave the house post-surgery to ensure complete and timely recovery. Days later, she left the house and did not return. When the husband checked the almirah, he found that “the entire amount along with some more” was missing. This is when he realized he had been cheated in the dirtiest manner possible.
She found her lover on Facebook and decided to marry this man who is a painter by profession. Soon after the husband sold his kidney for ₹10 lakh, the woman and her ‘friend’ fleed with the money. When the couple was tracked down with the help of friends and acquaintances, they were found residing in a house. The wife refused to open their doors even at the request of her husband and in-laws along with their daughter. She even denied having taken any money from the house.
When the husband filed a police complaint, the woman’s lover even threatened that she would file for a divorce alleging physical and mental torture by her in-laws in the 16 years of their marital life. The West Bengal Police has launched a probe based on a complaint lodged by the husband’s family.
