Who is Anasuya Sengupta, the Cannes Winner?
Anasuya Sengupta has created history by being the 1st Indian to win Best Actress at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
Anasuya Sengupta has bagged a Performance Award in the Un Certain Regard Award category at the Cannes Film Festival 2024.
Sengupta is one of the leads in “The Shameless”, a Hindi movie directed by Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov.
Hailing from Kolkata, Anasuya is the first Indian to have won the category’s top acting honor.
The Cannes winner dedicated her award “to queers and other marginalized communities” in her acceptance speech.
She said she’s proud of these people “fighting bravely for getting equal rights”.
The English Literature student was born in Bengal and once aspired to become a Journalist.
Anasuya attended the screening of her film and “walked shakily towards the stage” to receive her award.
