A luxury train trip that provides you with total all-you-can-drink tequila may look like the not-so-real stuff of an intrepid imbiber’s dreams, but this is coming true and the credit goes to a particular liquored-up locomotive. The Jose Cuervo Express—named the Tequila Train and the reason is entirely implied —has been chugging through the segregated Mexican countryside for the past eight or so years, but has not long ago begun presenting a new high-level experience suitable for the most discerning tequila sippers.

The beautiful vintage-style, black and gold train travels from the city of Guadalajara, via the untouched Mexican countryside, to the small town of Tequila. This well-known community was labelled as a Pueblo Mágico (Magic Town) by the Mexican Secretariat of Tourism, and, gives out its signature spirit in spades.

Luckily, the 11-hour journey aboard the Tequila Train is heaven as the last destination. The very recent Elite experience witnesses guests ride in an exquisite wood-panelled car known, well enough, as the Elite Wagon. The exotic car presents floor-to-ceiling windows and offers up a view as intoxicating as anything served on the train.

Guests in this class also have the facility to two plush lounge areas and a premium open bar filled up with Reserva de la Familia, Maestro Dobel, Gran Centenario and 1800. If you consume an excess of añejo, there’s also rum, vodka, whiskey and a new line of custom cocktails.

Going over the tipples, you’ll be presented with yummy regional snacks to have a real taste of Mexico and also take some enjoyment on onboard entertainment, such as a lottery game. Via the route, a master quilter (a sommelier of tequila) will also help you through a three-glass tasting and present you with more context to the spirit so you can better praise what you’re sipping.

To finish it off, you’ll take a trip to Latin America’s oldest distillery, Jose Cuervo’s La Rojeña, and walk through agave fields if conditions allow. The complete Elite experience is rounded at about $166 per person and can be enjoyed at sunrise or sunset.
