A shocking incident from Shanghai, China recently came to light and shook the Internet leaving netizens in splits. While some called it hilarious, others had some serious concerns about her parenting. In the incident, a teenage girl stole a million Yuan worth of jewelry from her own house. When her mom reported the theft, here’s how things unfolded.

Teenage girl sells mother’s jewellery worth ₹1.16 crore for just ₹680 to buy lip studs

Li, the teenage girl, stole her mother’s precious jewelry worth 1 million Yuan from the house. These were some exquisite items including jade bracelets and gemstone pieces along with other high-value necklaces. Li mistook all this as fake jewelry and sold it off unknowingly at just 60 Yuan. The entire story surfaced when her mom, Wang reported the theft in a police station. When asked why she did that she ‘needed money’ to buy lip studs and a pair of earrings. She explained the ‘need’ to her mom saying, “I saw someone with lip studs, and I thought they looked great. I wanted one too”.

The long and short of it is that Li stole her mom’s precious jewelry to buy lip studs worth 30 Yuan and a pair of earrings worth the same. So she sold off $140,000 worth of fortune to buy some cheap accessories worth $8. Genius! Wang, however, convinced the police that she “had no idea why Li wanted to sell it.” Despite the teen’s negligence, the Chinese Police promptly launched an investigation and successfully tracked down where the items had been sold based on surveillance footage. It was a jade recycling shop and the stolen jewelry was eventually recovered.

Though the family received prompt help and the issue was resolved, the news circulated on social media like wildfire! Netizens got involved in heated discussions on the viral incident. While some criticized the parenting approach, others questioned the teen’s ignorance. One user commented, “Why not give the child some pocket money?” Another user wrote, “Adolescents need to communicate with their parents. This whole situation is a mess, troubling for the shop owner, the police, and everyone involved.” Many of the social media users found the incident hilariously bizarre, though.
