Mumbai, the city of dreams and financial capital of India has come to a standstill because of COVID19. The movement of people of the road is less, many areas are under containment zone and there is a threat around the city. Coronavirus has changed the way we used to live.

When we talk about Mumbai, mentioning Dabbawalas becomes essential. Mumbai is incomplete without them and their service. However, because of continuous lockdown since March, the Dabbawala community is also facing a huge challenge.

Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, and Aslam Shaikh are here to help Dabbawalas

Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty Join Hands With Aslam Shaikh for Helping Dabbawalas

A month ago, we reported that How the Mumbai Dabbawalas Seek Cash Assistance From Maharashtra Govt As Lockdown Dries Up Income. At that point, they were extremely helpless. Realizing their pain, the Maharashtra government came to their rescue.

Aslam Shaikh, the Cabinet Minister of Maharashtra, along with Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty are helping them. They’re arranging essential food item kits for them and their family. Speaking on this initiative, Suniel Shetty says,

“It’s an initiative started by Aslam Bhai and Sanju, I had no hesitation in joining hands with them. Prema Cha Dabba becomes even more beautiful when everyone gets together.”

Not only in Mumbai, but they are also serving the Dabbawalas till Pune. As many of these dabbawalas have returned to their natives in scarce of money. Suniel’s NGO, Save the Children India is executing the entire plan. The food kit they deliver constitutes rice, dal, sugar, atta and oil.

Till now, 800 families have received this kit. Their aim is to reach 5000 families of Dabbawalas. It is noteworthy that the Dabbawalas ensure that people get home food right on time. But now, when they’re facing challenges, it is our responsibility to feed them.

Sanju Baba says on this initiative,

“The community that once fed so many in Mumbai is facing starvation today. So, we are delivering them our dabbas with lots of love.”
