Mumbai Dabbawalas are famous across the globe for their accurate services. Because of their accuracy, they have also delivered their lecture on management at Harvard University. However, the pandemic spread across the globe has dried up their entire income.

All the 5000 dabbawalas in the city are dependent on those 2 Lakh office-goers in the city. Since March 22nd there was a lockdown in the country. Even now, most of the offices are opting for work from home. Even the government guidelines say that organizations must enforce their employees to work from home.

Mumbai Dabbawalas Seek Cash Assistance From Maharashtra Govt As Lockdown Dries Up Income

Due to this, there is no other way to get income for these famous Mumbai Dabbawalas. On the current situation, the secretary of Mumbai Dabbawalas association, Mr. Nitin Sawant Says,

“We are facing a financial crisis like situation due to this lockdown. We do not have any other source of income now, most of the dabbawalas have returned to their native places. Their condition worsened after cyclone Nisarga which has ruined their houses and fields.”

Mumbai Dabbawala association proposed the Maharashtra government to help each dabbawala with a support of Rs. 5000/- The government actually proposed a sum of Rs. 2000/- for each dabbawala. However, their argument is that it is not affordable to live in a Metro City like Mumbai with a sum of Rs. 2000/-

It is noteworthy that many of these dabbawalas migrated back to their villages. Their main goal was to establish another source of income i.e. Farming. But, due to the effect of Cyclone Nisarga in Maharashtra, many of them also lost crop in their fields.

These dabbawalas are the ones who ensure timely delivery of homely food! But right now, they are suffering a lot. We hope that the government admits their demand and helps them whole-heartedly!
