This year, Mumbai’s Ganeshotsav celebration is going through a lot of upheavals. There are many confusions prevailing among the Ganpati Mandals that whether to do it in August or in February. While some of the Ganesha Mandals are also planning to cancel Ganeshotsav for this year.

Maharashtra’s CM Uddhav Thackeray has left this decision with the Ganpati Mandals. However, his only urge to the mandals is to celebrate Ganeshotsav with simplicity for this year. Therefore, one by one all the Ganesh Mandals are taking their own decision regarding the festival celebration this year.

What is the status of World Famous Lalbaugcha Raja Ganpati of Mumbai?

Lalbaugcha Raja Ganpati is the grandest celebration of Ganeshotsav in Mumbai. For the last 87 years, this Ganpati Mandal in the Parel area of Mumbai attracts people from the city and entire India. However, this 87-year-old tradition will end this year.

As the Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh Mandal has decided to call off the celebration of festivity for this year. Instead, they have thought of an alternative arrangement. Sudhir Salvi, Secretary of Lalbaugcha Raja Mandal said,

“We have decided to not celebrate the Ganesh festival this year. We are going to celebrate it as a health festival. This decision has been taken in view of the pandemic. In those 10 days, we will organize a blood donation camp and an awareness camp to promote plasma donation. We will also felicitate the families of policemen and army men who gave their lives for the country. We are also donating Rs 25 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Fund for fighting the pandemic.”

It is quite noteworthy that plasma donors have played a good role in the treatment of COVID19 patients. Hence, it is a welcome move by the mandals. There are also various mandals that are postponing the celebrations to February 2021.

For us, it is a proud movement that our citizens understand and cooperate with the government for following the COVID19 norms.
