India is all set to take up its top position in the list of the most populous countries this year, surpassing China with its approximately 1.4 billion population. According to the United Nations (UN), “India is expected to overtake China as the world’s most populous country even though its population growth has been slowing down.”
China’s National Bureau of Statistics filed a fall of about 850,000 people for a population of 1.41175 billion in 2022, setting up its very initial fall since 1961, which supposedly turns India into the world’s most populous nation, according to the reports by Reuters.

1. India calculates its population at about 1.38 billion, in comparison to China’s 1.4 billion.
2. Uttar Pradesh is among the country’s most populated states, with a population of about 230 million people.
3. Lakshadweep falls at the last in the list of populated states, with about merely 68,000 people.
4. India is also on the list of the youngest countries in the world. About 27.3 per cent of its population is aged between 15 and 29 years.
5. India also acquires its place among the eight countries believed to be accountable for more than half the witnessing rise in world population up to 2050.
7. India’s yearly population rise has summed up to 1.2 per cent since 2011, down from 1.7 per cent in the last 10 years.
8. The application of family planning methods in India rose from 53.5 per cent in 2015-16 to 66.67 per cent in 2019-21.
9. India’s total fertility rate, the number of children per woman – degraded to 2 in 2019-2021, down from 3.4 in 1992-93.
