Turns out the most valuable thing in your house might not be your jewelry, but it’s your ponytail. In an incredible heist in Faridabad, Haryana, 330 pounds of hair valued at $8,375 and $2,390 in cash were taken from the home of a wig maker.
Authorities reported that:
On January 12, a bunch of thieves broke into Ranjit Mandal’s house at around 3 am. The group examined the house by going to a room upstairs and then taking off with the cash and hair wigs. The owner of the house didn’t find the hair and cash the next morning. He quickly alerted the cops. The hair was raw material for developing wigs and hair extensions. These hair extensions and wigs are a part of a booming industry both nationally and internationally.
The CCTV cameras installed in the neighbourhood had caught the movement. The clip showed that a group of men were spotted walking into the neighbourhood. The camera recorded them leaving the area with a huge sack, which consisted of human hair. Police are still investigating the matter, but the situation and the type of theft have left them baffled.
The neighbourhood is still in shock due to the bizarre robbery. It is hard to determine whether the thieves were aware of the actual price of the hair that they stole or just randomly ran away with a sack of hair. They can be seen opening the hair sack to check their haul on the CCTV footage. It is possible that the robbers targeted the residence specifically to take the hair. They probably knew how much it might sell for.
This even emphasises the danger of small enterprises’ vulnerability. When your inventory can be packed in a sack and sold strand by strand, protection is more than just locks and keys.
