Going on solo birthday holidays is great. And nothing better than when your partner is okay with that. But this man went a step forward and chose to go on a solo vacation after his girlfriend couldn’t afford to pay for her end. He denied paying for his GF and here’s how the Internet reacted.
A 39-year-old man went on to ask ‘AITA’ to Redditors as he went solo on a long-awaited vacation without her girlfriend because she was struggling to pay even some of the total amount. Three months into the relationship, the couple ended up in a fight as the man was reluctant to pay the entire expenses for the whole vacation.
Apparently, the guy had been saving for his first international vacation since his 20s and wanted to celebrate his 40th birthday while traveling for a week. He had been waiting for this long-pending holiday to celebrate his milestone birthday and now that his finances were ‘in shape’, he’d been wanting to have this recreational holiday with his new lady love. However, the twist came in when he wanted her to ‘contribute financially to come along’.
His girlfriend was not in the best of her financial condition. She had been working hard but was already saddled with a debt of $20k on her credit cards. Aware of her situation, the guy offered to pay for their lodging if she could manage her own airfare. He even chose to opt for a relatively cheaper destination for her to afford their meals and half the airfare.
As the lady denied contribution due to her budget constraints, the boyfriend decided to ‘understand the situation’ and go on the vacation all by himself. He claimed that he had been waiting to do this for several years and now that he is sound enough to do it, he did not want to miss the opportunity. He expected his girlfriend to understand him just as he did, but when it didn’t happen, he suspected ‘some sugar-daddy stuff’ as they had been only three months in the relationship.
As the anonymous Reddit user posted a thread on the platform, he received a mixed response from the audience just as their own families did too. While some called the woman a ‘red flag’, others expressed their happiness as the guy prioritized his own feelings maturely.
The question is, aren’t women going all loud and clear asking for equality? If they expect every expense to be 50-50, why would they express potential disappointment when such incidents happen? It is high time young people started prioritizing what they can afford in life with their own hard-earned money instead of relying on others making those kinds of requests.
