In an alarming happenstance reported from a village in Maharashtra, India, an individual was arrested for running a clinic for over 3 years with fake medical qualifications. The class 10 pass-out had only gained a 4-day training but was posing as a doctor treating 70-80 patients daily. He was even involved in treating serious conditions like diabetes and bone disorders. The ‘doctor’ was charging ₹500 per consultation from his patients. He soon grew popular among the locals and despite the lack of professional credentials, he was successful in extending his services to another village too.
Going by the name of Dattatraya Sadashiv Pawar, the fake doctor with no formal medical training or a valid license, used his limited knowledge to start a clinic and he took the people around him with so much confidence, that they started trusting him for their daily medical needs and even serious health issues despite his lack of credentials. Thanks to their ignorance, the guy kept running his tactics for more than 3 years.
Finally, suspicion grew in the residents’ minds regarding his expertise and qualifications. When they alerted the health department and demanded a probe, Pawar’s fake and illegal clinic finally came to light. When the authorities conducted a raid, it was revealed the guy did not have any proper qualifications or a medical license and he was illegally running the clinic for unknown reasons. This led to his arrest. The intentions behind Pawar’s activities remain unknown and are being investigated.
While the healthcare department of the state is in a probe to determine if other unlicensed practitioners are operating in the region, it is essential for us as members of society to be aware of such illegal activities. Stay alert to the dangers of trusting unqualified practitioners to ensure personal safety.
