Kids often complain of parents being partial toward one of them. But what happens when they grow up and it’s time to look after their elderly parents? It becomes quite difficult for them and the kids keep quarreling over who should be responsible for the aging parent. Aging is a serious issue in many parts of the world especially in Southeast Asian countries. This case highlights the extreme lengths to which kids can go over their disputes about parents.
In a shocking incident, two brothers got into a quarrel over performing the funeral of their father. But the dispute took an extreme turn when they insisted on cutting the body into two halves for separate cremations! The incident was reported from Madhya Pradesh in India and instantly went viral on social media as netizens found it saddening and disturbing. After the death of the 85-year-old man, a conflict arose between two of his sons, Damodar and Kishan, over who would perform the last rites.
Damodar was the one who looked after his ailing father in his last days. As he was preparing for the cremation rituals, Kishan arrived with his family and started insisting on performing the last rites himself. This resulted in a heated argument between the brothers after which Kishan came up with a bizarre solution. He suggested that the body of their deceased father be divided into two halves so they could carry out the cremations separately. When this idea failed for obvious reasons, no one from the duo was ready to budge. The relatives and neighbors tried persuading Kishan but as he remained adamant, the dead body was lying unattended outside the house for around 5 hours.
Despite the pleas, when the matter was unresolved, the villagers sought help from the police. When the authorities arrived, they consulted with the family and brought the dispute to an end without letting the split of the body happen. Finally, with family consensus and under official supervision, Damodar performed the last rites, and Kishan, with his family, attended the cremation.
