Rajkot is a fast developing city in Gujarat. Rajkot was the capital city of Saurashtra during 1948-1956 and is the fourth largest city in Gujarat. Most importantly Rajkot was the home-town of Mahatma Gandhi. It also had the headquarters of the British Rulers and hence the city has sites and buildings that hold testimony to the colonial time.
1) Dayro is the native music
Dayro music is kathiyawad’s music genre which is used to convey stories and sayings. Gujarati Dayro is sometimes run for whole night. These contain mostly folk songs, religious songs or film songs.
2) Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium
This cricket stadium played its first international match on 11th January 2013 between Indian and England. The stadium has a capacity of over 28000 people and during cricket matches, Rajkot is the most loved city of all. Rajkot has given cricketers such as K S Ranjitsinhji, Karsan Ghavri and Cheteshwar Pujara who have played with the Indian Cricket team.
3) Rajkot is where Gandhiji spent his early days
Kaba Gandhi No Delo, now known as Gandhi Smirti, is the place where Gandhiji spent his early years in Rajkot. It is now converted in a museum which consists of photographs, objects and the belongings of Mahatma Gandhi.
4) Alfred High School
Mahatma Gandhi studied in this school during the time his father was working in Rajkot. The name of the school is not converted into Mohandas Gandhi High School. This is the most visited tourist place in Rajkot.
5) The Dolls Museum
The Rotary Midtown Dolls museum is a museum of various dolls where hundreds of visitors daily come to see various dolls and is a good place to take your children to during an outing. The ticket price is also not very costly and hence a great place for an outing.
6) El Dorado Amusement Park
This amazing amusement park is near Rajkot-Jamnagar Highway and if you really badly feel the need to have a good time then you should visit this amusement park as it has 18 amazing rides for adults and children and the food is delicious too. So if you’re planning an outing with your family or friends for a day, you should visit this place. The price is not too costly too.
7) Aji Dam
This Dam is situated near the Aji river and is a great tourist place. It has a beautiful garden near it where you can hang out with your family eating sandwiches and watching the view of the river. Theres a fish pond too and you can feed the fish too, there are vendors that sell fish food. You should plan a whole day picnic and decide outdoor games whilst you are there.
